A Quantum of Solace

Posted on November 16, 2008 by Tobias in Personal

Tonight I finally got the chance to see the new Bond movie "A Quantum of Solace". So I paid 9 Euros to get to see a quality movie once in a while. Wait, quality movie? Yeah, I heard about all the critics concerning this movie, but I didn't believe them... until now.

So I went to the cinema, had to watch 30 minutes of crappy ads to finally get to see an even crappier movie. Here's why:

  1. Actual story? None. Throughout the movie, Bond travels from place to place, whereas the audience doesn't even know why. Only thing that happens at the very location: persons die.
  2. This movie is missing the quintessence of a Bond movie: No Q, no real Bond girl, no Bond car
  3. The theme song doesn't fit to the Bond scheme (what the hell guys?)
  4. Too much action (yes there really was too much)
  5. The  ending of the movie isn't a real ending (you're like "what now?")

All in all I'd say it's a blockbuster movie and nothing more, nothing less. You'd watch it once and never again. I, for one, am not going to spend money on the Blu-ray Disk or the DVD.  If you feel like watching it, you should definitely do so, but don't expect too much.

Just my 2 cents.

  1. I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you down the road!

  2. Quantum of Solace is entertaining at least… a lot of high quality visuals, but the movie as a whole could stand to lose six or seven fewer chase scenes

  3. Saw the movie Saturday evening. I love the action.
    1. Agreed. I didn’t catch anything at all of his action. But I love the action realted to it. Anyone care to explain me? What’s the meaning of Quantum Of Salace anyway?
    2. Agreed. Remark that, in Quantum Of Salace, Bond doesn’t have its “Licence To Kill” coz it’s the 2nd Flemming book about Bond.
    3. Never really cared about the song anyway.
    4. Action FTW. Junjou………..ACTION!
    5. Bizarre, yeah… I think there’s a follow up to that. That’s maybe why…

    my 2¢ according to Arthuro’s 2¢

  4. Hi,

If you would have told me you were going to see the last Bond, I would have tried to stop you from doing this crazy thing. I don’t understand why James Bond is so popular in Germany and Austria. Every week you can see one or two Bonds movies on german television.

You can also say that Craig is not a James Bond type at all. I see him more like a Vladimir Putin type ! Well, the James Bond movies are overestimated, and each new one a little bit more. I heard once Quentin Tarantino wanted to do something with the character, but the producers did not…

So, I was surprised because your news has nothing to do with B’z and B’z deserves much more than this new James Vladimir Bond. Let’s all buy the new DVD Hidden Pleasure! Yes it’s a little bit more expensive, but surely 300% better! Like a typhoon in our face!

Another news which does’nt have a concrete link with B’z, but who knows: the legendary Hironobu Kageyama is coming to France in march 2009! Yes, the one who sang the Dragon Ball Z openings! Chala Head Chala!

  5. omg I just discovered your site thru B’z today, read this post, and I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU! >_< It’s like you said the exact same thing I felt about the movie. Thank you!! I feel a large burden has been lifted from my shoulder. haha.

I love your site. I’m going to bookmark for the first time in 4 months. I love your B’z clips. A lot of it I’ve never seen before, and they’re really realy good. Watching Inaba-san smile/laugh so wholeheartedly almost made me come to tears, weird yah, I dunno why. T_T

    I love B’z.

  6. well, i enjoyed the movie, the action and it was entertaining, that is what i expect from a bond movie,
okay the song is crappy and the bond girl lacks.
I also think Daniel Craig may not be the best bond but he is cool somehow.
And i liked the fact that Judi Dench’s role as “M” was extended. She is the best “Bond girl”.
    cheers
