The full 2012 concert as a bonus is definitely a surprise! But why not include a Blu-ray version as well? Other Japanese artists have released albums with a Blu-ray, I wouldn’t mind paying a bit more for it either since the there is a substantial difference in quality compared to DVD.

Thanks for translating all this, I was struggling with some of the readings at B’z official.

By the way, amazon.co.jp is taking pre-orders for all editions of Epic Day.
The vinyl is interesting…. what’s the marketing strategy or the point of the gimmick?
Only a hardcore vinyl collector would have a player these days.

Special vinyl editions of new albums has become a trend in modern music it seems. I know that Tak (and Barry) are big fans of the medium and collect records, and after Tak also had that limited pressing/giveaway of New Horizon on vinyl that was really popular, I guess it’s not too surprising they decided to try it here as well. Judging by how well the vinyl edition is doing in pre-orders, we may see some other vinyl editions in the future.

What I’m most glad to see is that the vinyl edition comes with a download code. Otherwise, people would definitely see it as a way for a band to inflate sales (since most would just buy the vinyl for collecting and then buy a CD for listening to; now they won’t have to do so).

It’s not really a “gimmick”, in my opinion… more of a way to appease the small number of audiophiles who can somehow hear the difference in audio quality when music is stored digitally vs in an analog format.

There’s some logic to it, since having a straight analog signal is a much more accurate reproduction of the original music, as you can read here: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question487.htm

But unless you have super sensitive ears, you’re unlikely to be able to hear the difference which is why even the “vinyl comeback” only makes up 2% of all music sales, and why the vinyl record section in the Tower Records I looked around in yesterday only amounted to a small box in the corner of the store.

For people interested in the vinyl: Check Amazon Japan 🙂
